Since my last post, things have improved quite a bit. The mastitis only lasted a couple of days thankfully. I felt really horrible the second half of the day I got it, went to the doctor and got an antibiotic, and was feeling pretty decent by the second night. There was some residual tiredness and aching the two days after that but I was pretty much back to myself. I think I lucked out in that nursing wasn't painful for me. (I probably had enough of that the week we got home with Myelle when we were still dealing with proper latch issues.)
The mastitis may have been sort of a blessing in disguise. I was popping ibuprofen to keep the fever down and taking an antibiotic four times a day so I stopped taking my prenatal for a few days (too many pills!). Myelle seemed to be much better in terms of how gassy she was. I had sort of wondered if my prenatal was bothering her all along. I remember a week or two after we got home from the hospital thinking that when I switched the time of day that I took my vitamin, she also seemed to change her fussy time. But I thought it was just coincidence or all in my head. But then after the mastitis I went back to taking them and she got fussier, then I stopped taking them and she has been much better since. She still has her fussy times but I can at least console her now. I have read up on it online and while there are mixed opinions on whether it is a real thing, I have read that the iron in prenatals can cause sensitivities to some babies. I am going to try taking one tonight to see if it has an impact or if she is just growing out of that fussy stage she was in. If she gets a bad tummy ache, I am definitely going to call the doctor to see if I can stay off the prenatals or what I should do.
The spitting up wasn't quite as "over" as I thought but it is much less frequent which is great. She isn't spitting up half of what I feed her every time. Most feedings just a little comes back up and sometimes nothing at all. Occasionally she will have some major spit ups but I am glad that is no longer the norm.
I can't believe how fast Myelle has been growing the past week or two. We got out the walker since she likes to be upright so much. I thought we would have to use a ton of padding to keep her upright but she can actually sit in it with no extra support and her feet even touch the floor. She loves it for about 20-30 minutes at a time and then gets a little too tired/frustrated/over-stimulated. I also have to be careful of putting her in right after a feeding because that pressure on her tummy and chest causes a lot of spitting up. About 2 days after we first put her in it, she started really trying to grab and move her toys. It was pretty amazing how she went from pretty much a newborn who lies there and looks around to being so much more interactive and actually playing with her toys. In the mornings, she is especially happy and when she wakes up a lot of times she will just talk (more like yell) to her mobile and a toy that hangs on her crib. She is still cooing and smiling at people a lot and loves watching her brother, the TV, and the dog. She definitely knows Brett and I as well and will just stare and smile while we are talking.
Brett is gone for a week in Japan to visit his brother so I am solo with the kids. It's gone really well so far although I am definitely missing him more daily. We got on Skype yesterday and Myelle definitely recognized him and even did some "talking" to him over the computer. I'm so glad Myelle is being better with her dada gone though because I don't know how I would have fared if she was still as fussy as she was a couple of weeks ago.
