21 Week Ultrasound and Checkup

We had an appointment today and it went really well. The baby is measuring just a few days behind which is perfectly normal at this point in the pregnancy. He or she is moving a lot, and what I have been feeling is a lot of the feet kicking around. The head is on my right side with the feet on the left (where I have been feeling the most movement). One interesting thing that happened is that during the measurement of the femur we got a pretty good view of what some people call the "toilet shot." Brett and I both walked out of there thinking it was a girl although we told the technician that we didn't want her to tell us the gender. Of course, we are by no means experts and this was a 10-15 second view so I am not super confident in our analysis. But now, I sort of want to find out just so that my expectations aren't out of line. I just don't want to start thinking it's a girl, getting my heart set on that, and then being disappointed that it is a boy. As of now I really don't care either way what we have, but I know if I start down one path that could change. Brett is not with me. He doesn't want to know for sure. We have ultrasounds every 4 weeks from here out so there are a few chances to change our minds on finding out. It's just so nervewracking! One thing that would be nice is only picking out one name. We are having a really hard time agreeing on anything this time around for either gender.

The doctor is going to have them go ahead and schedule the delivery date in the next week. That will be kind of neat since we will know the birth date. We also discussed whether we could make a big trip to Japan in September. Since September 15th is a big tax deadline, I realistically wouldn't be able to go until after that. The doctor shook her head at that date and basically said no. She sort of said we could chance it but neither of us felt like that would be a good thing to do. So at least we have that question answered and can mark that off our list for the time being. I also talked to my boss a little about whether I would be quitting or staying after the baby is born. I was previously set on leaving but my job has been sort of "fun" I guess you could say lately so now I am having second thoughts. That and my mom is likely quitting her business before I would have to go back to work and she has volunteered to take care of my kids. Oh, and the fact that I get paid pretty darn well and have a pretty darn nice arrangement in terms of my schedule. On the other hand, I have wanted to start my own thing and be able to stay at home and parent since we know this is more than likely our last child. We have some discussing and thinking to do in the next few months. Regardless of how everything pans out, we are so excited and lucky to be having this child and we are so glad ot know that she ;-) is healthy!
