Myelle has had four ear infections in about two months as well as two rounds of stomach flu in that time. To say we were fed up was an understatement. It seemed like every time she got a runny nose, an ear infection was right around the corner. It's odd since she didn't have any before this year. And she was on four rounds of antibiotics which I was not okay with.
We had lots of doctor trips -- good thing they had suckers and Snoopy stickers to keep her coming back. Any time she truly doesn't feel good, she asks to go see Lori (a nurse practitioner that we sometimes see at the clinic). One day after we got home she got out her doctor stuff and computer and pretended to be Lori.
It's always so sad to see her with those sick eyes though.
Finally they sent us on to an ear, nose, and throat doctor. He took a look and asked a few questions and decided tubes were in order and having her adenoid removed was a possibility as well. I was kind of a nervous wreck the week of the surgery. It was on a Friday morning and I was to leave for a spring break girls trip with my family that evening. Grandma Tammy and Dada would have to deal with whatever recovery and side effects there were.
The surgery was early in the morning in Lincoln so we had to get up very early and she was not to have anything to eat or drink. I was not optimistic about how our morning would go but we explained everything and she did great. She ended up having to have a pretty big piece of her adenoid removed (probably 1"x2"). Before the surgery, they tried several times to get the IV in her hand with no success which left some bruises (this was one of the worst of the side effects). They ended up putting the IV in her foot so when she woke up she was very upset about her sock not being on and stuff being stuck in her foot. Once that was out, her main issue was hunger. She asked for chicken and french fries when we got to the car. It was still breakfast time so when we brought up pancakes, she was totally on board and ate a ton! As far as I was told, she did pretty good that next week and her ear drops were the hardest part.
So far we haven't had any more ear infections so hopefully that did the trick and we can stay away from antibiotics for a while! She is feeling good, as you can see by this picture on our way to a follow-up appointment.
She even ate her wrap so well that a construction worker sitting nearby commented on it.
