The test definitely wasn't nearly as bad as I had feared. Some of the people I talked to said that it made them feel so sick and I had read on different online forums that drinking so much sugar on an empty stomach made them get sick and they had to go back and re-take the test. Thankfully, I just felt a little icky but nothing even close to getting sick. Hopefully that is a good sign for the results but I guess we will find out tomorrow.

The Test
I had the three-hour glucose tolerance test this morning. I was told to have nothing but water for 12 hours prior to the test so my fasting started around 8:00 last night. I made sure to eat a big dinner right before then hoping that would hold me over as long as possible. I got up shortly after 5:00 this morning which is super early for me. I had to take the test in Kansas City and wanted to schedule it as early as possible so that I could eat sooner. I got pretty hungry on the way but it subsided and I ended up being okay. When I got there a little before 8:00, they drew my blood and had me drink a lemon-lime flavored sugary drink. It was definitely more syrupy than what I drank with the 1-hour test but they poured it over ice for me and I was able to get it down without much trouble. Then every hour for three hours they drew my blood again. I sat in the waiting room and read a book during the wait. Thank goodness I remembered to go to the library and get a book or I would have gone crazy. Finally I was able to leave and eat shortly after 11:00. I should have the results sometime tomorrow so hopefully I get good news and not the bad news that I can't eat much of anything that I normally eat.

I had heard AWFUL things about this test before taking it myself. I didn't think it was that big of a deal, either. Yes, it's tough not eating when pregnant, but nothing unbearable! Glad you didn't have too much trouble. Hopefully good results, too!!
